Judy Lyons Schneider was born in New York City and educated at the Arts Students League and New York University and has been involved with making art for more years than she’d like to acknowledge. The evolution of her work has been wide ranging: from oils, to watercolors, etchings to encaustics, to a more recent focus on mixed media collage. Much of her work encompasses organic themes and women’s themes and combines her love for both cultural exploration, photography and printmaking.
Her work has been exhibited in both solo and group shows extensively around the US, both in public and private galleries including: the Gallery for the Study of Women and Gender at Princeton University, Sinclair College (Dayton,OH), Boca Raton Museum of Art (Boca Raton, FL), the Interchurch Center (NYC), the Ringling Museum of Art & Design (Sarasota,FL), the Woodward Gallery (Soho, NYC), the Museum of Fine Arts (Novgorod, Russia), the International Society of Experimental Artists (ISEA), the Von Liebig Art Center (Naples, FL), Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts (Fredericksburg, VA), Piermont Fine Arts Gallery (Piermont, NY) and the Union Theological Center (NYC), among many others (full list below). Her work was previously on view in large scale as a mural on the Sarasota Art Center building's exterior. Her work has been reviewed by the NY Times, the Herald Tribune, the Fine Arts Society of Sarasota and the SRQ Magazine and has received many awards and grants including a Geraldine Dodge grant at the Studio Center (Johnson, VT) during her long art career.
